MELBOURNE — Harris Corp. has several new industries in its crosshairs as part of a multimillion-dollar strategy to go beyond its traditional defense and government markets.

In that quest, health care now will be one of the firm’s major areas of focus, as well as the banking and broadcasting industries, say company officials.

The Melbourne-based international communications and information technology firm (NYSE: HRS) will do so by finding new applications for its primary technologies that made it a global leader in such areas as secure tactical radios for the military.

The new health care strategy will debut at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society’s conference at the Orange County Convention Center Feb. 25-28. There, Harris will unveil several new products, including the digital pathology workstation and its "operating room of the future."
