Medicine 2.0

BY Dr. Keith J. Kaplan

I have mentioned scienceroll.com here previously and the site continues to receive aclaim with its host, Berci Mesko also maintains the medicine portals on Wikipedia

He also directs Medicine 2.0 Blog Carnival

This blog will host the 22nd edition on April 13.  I am also interested in others willing to serve as guest contributors on this blog.  Will continue to post at least 3 times weekly and multiple posts per day as needed.  Guests are welcome to add content for Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The transformational concept of Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 and its use in medicine (Medicine 2.0) is an interesting story which is summarized below.  There is also an interesting illustration on the slide shows on scienceroll.com.  By portal one can look at Yahoo! to searching in Google from 1.0 to 2.0.  Similarly, static webpages to blogs and comments as an interactive site, changes from how users follow the content via favorites to RSS and podcasts, Brittanica Online to Wikipedia, on so forth.

See Berci’s comments below for more on Medicine 2.0

I’m pretty sure that web 2.0, the new generation of web services, will (and already is playing) play an important role in the future of medicine. These web tools, expert-based community sites, medical blogs and wikis can ease the work of physicians, scientists, medical students or medical librarians.

We believe that the new generation of web services will change the way medicine is practiced and healthcare is delivered.

So I decided to collect sites, presentations and services that could be helpful for medical experts. I collaborated with Ves Dimov (at clinicalcases.org), Bob Coffield (at healthcarebloglaw.blogspot.com), Brian Jefferson and Ken Civello (at askdrwiki.com).

I’ve had several opportunities to present my work at many clinics and departments here in Debrecen, Hungary, but now I search for universities around the world interested in a presentation like this one below. If you’re interested, just send me an e-mail to berci.mesko [at] gmail.com.

Medicine 2.0= web 2.0 + medicine
