This website demonstrates the utility of the JPEG2000 image format and the JPIP network protocol in virtual microscopy. We have constructed a JPEG2000-based software package consisting of image compression, viewing, and network server applications, all suited for the needs of virtual microscopy. The package is freely downloadable and usable for non-commercial purposes. The software can be tested using our public virtual slide collections.
