Dirk Soenksen Leaving Aperio

BY Dr. Keith J. Kaplan

biz280For the first time in 14 years, Aperio will be without its original founder, CEO, president and futurist.  He leaves behind a company and an industry he helped build designing and marketing products and services using digital pathology technologies to help researchers, pathologists and patients worldwide.

He steps down as well as founder of the Digital Pathology Association where I interacted directly with him the most as a former board member.  He will remain as immediate past president and board member.  Dirk helped drive the idea that the burgeoning digital pathology industry needed a national meeting of its own as well as an industry-supported, pathologist run professional association to help form standards, practice guidelines, address regulatory issues and provide a platform for people in the space to share their ideas, network and communicate.

Best wishes Dirk for continued success in your futrue endeavors.

For a brief early history of Aperio, check out this story on “Scanner earns its stripes” from a San Diego newspaper in 2006.
