“The goal of this technology is to help global pathology community unlock the value of Digital Pathology for the benefits of cancer research and patient care,” says Vitali Khvatkov, the founder of Smart Imaging Technologies.”

Microscopic examination of tissue sample by pathologist is an essential step in cancer diagnostic process. More than a million of glass microscope slides is reviewed and stored in US every day creating wealth of diagnostic information locked inside slide archives. Digital Pathology slide scanners can convert glass slides into digital images and make them available for study and reference anywhere in the world, but each image can take gigabytes of data making search and retrieval a very challenging task.

To address this challenge Smart Imaging Technologies has developed fast distributed database engine, for its Simagis Live Digital Pathology cloud platform called InstantDB. InstantDB can index and classify, digital slides on server using flexible set of attributes, such as tissue type, biomarker, diagnosis or Patient ID. Slides can be retrieved instantly for reference by an attribute, tag, comment or other searchable criteria. Built on the same technology as Internet search engines, InstantDB can index and manage virtually unlimited slide libraries. With InstantDB, pathology labs and educational institutions can create powerful knowledge libraries from digital slide archives and use them for diagnostic reference, drug development or genomic research across geographic boundaries.

“The goal of this technology is to help global pathology community unlock the value of Digital Pathology for the benefits of cancer research and patient care,” says Vitali Khvatkov, the founder of Smart Imaging Technologies. “The ability to instantly find the right tissue sample from massive digital archives will be especially valuable for large cancer research institutions, tissue banks and diagnostic pathology networks,” he added.

Smart Imaging Technologies provides digital slide management software, whole slide image analysis applications and cloud hosting services that make Digital Pathology affordable for labs of any size. With these products, users can easily manage, view, annotate, share and analyze digital slides from any web browser. Smart Imaging Technologies’ products can be custom branded and deployed on-premises or in the cloud to deliver unified solutions across geographic boundaries.
