Leica Biosystems Partners with eyesFinder™ to Create Powerful Decision Support Tools for Pathologists
Aperio’s former CTO, Ole Eichorn, has started a new company called eyesFinder which is developing visual search technologies that could be used to provide decision support tools with pathology images. Stay tuned.
Vista, CA – January 9th, 2013 – Leica Biosystems, the global leader in ePathology solutions, announced, today, a partnership with eyesFinder, a leading developer of visual search technology, to create powerful decision support tools for pathologists. This relationship builds on Leica Biosystems innovation strategy to be the provider of choice for world-leading digital pathology solutions. A key aspect of this approach is to build expertise in managing big data to support pathology decisions.
Leica Biosystems seeks to leverage the powerful visual search tools created by eyesFinder enabling instant use of vast amounts of information from cloud-hosted information repositories. “Visual search will revolutionize the practice of pathology and free up massive resources that could be directed elsewhere,” said Puneet Sarin, vice president, general manager, Pathology Imaging, Leica Biosystems. “It has potential to not only aid analysis, but serve as a much needed post-interpretive quality assessment tool.”
eyesFinder is a new company founded by Ole Eichhorn, who served as chief technology officer of Aperio, which was acquired by Leica Biosystems in 2012. At eyesFinder, Ole will continue to build on his expertise in leading technical teams as he demonstrated at several successful start-ups, including Digital Insight™, Intuit®, and PayPal™. “Visual search is the next step in search,” commented Ole. “eyesFinder’s precise visual search algorithms enable a wide range of applications, including decision support for pathology.
