Leica Biosystems Launches Expanded Line of Surgipath AffirmSeal Pre-Filled Specimen Jars for Easy Handling and Safe Transport of Various-Sized Tissue Specimens

BY Dr. Keith J. Kaplan

affirmseal-sizes-and-packagingRICHMOND, ILLINOIS, June 28, 2016 — Leica Biosystems announces the addition of four new sizes to the current 20mL Surgipath AffirmSeal Pre-Filled Specimen Jar. The new sizes include 40mL, 60mL, 90mL and 120mL, and are offered in multiple packaging configurations. Pre-filled with 10% neutral buffered formalin, AffirmSeal jars are specifically designed for safe collection and transport of various sized specimens.

“We are very excited to expand our portfolio by offering new sizes of the AffirmSeal pre-filled jars,” stated Leo Kulmaczewski, Vice President, Operations & Site Leader of Leica Biosystems Core Histology Consumables Business. “The extra wide diameter of the 90mL and 120mL jars provides ease of use when handling large tissue specimens. Additionally, the product design helps prevent leakage during transport.”

The jars feature a plastic mold design that creates two clearly audible and tactile “clicks” when the lid is properly secured. This provides confirmation that the specimen is secure, helps prevent leakage, and offers an added level of safety from formalin fumes for couriers and technicians.

AffirmSeal jars are made of durable plastic to prevent cracking when inadvertently dropped, and comply with 95 kPa pressure testing for safe air shipment and use in pneumatic transport systems. The packaging is made of chipboard material, making it safe for operating room use. In terms of configurations, Mini-Pak sizes allow for easy breakdown of the cases for distribution to other labs and physician offices. Alternatively, flat packs save storage space and provide added durability during transit.

The new AffirmSeal sizes will be available for pre-order starting today on LeicaBiosystems.com. Pre-orders will ship by 7/20.

Good to hear. Based on the appearance of the jars they should work well with the new Safety-Spec Gross Room Lab Tray (www.safety-spec.com) for organization in the gross room and for IMPROVING PATIENT SAFETY by helping reduce labeling and specimen transfer errors.
Safety-Spec is offering a deep pre-production discount for a limited number of these patented trays at this time. See web site for details and to order. Shipping anticipated early 4th Q 2016 or earlier..
The gross room tray has been endorsed by a pathology safety expert and major malpractice defense attorney.
