Digital Pathology including the advances in whole slide imaging (WSI) has enabled the creation of powerful solutions for the potential to manage an all-digital anatomic pathology workflow and the ability to rapidly share diagnostic quality images. There have been multiple advances in terms of the capabilities and functionality of the WSI systems with multiple vendors now offering smaller desktop devices with rapid scan times and improved image quality and yet making these devices much more affordable than their predecessors by offering subscription-based, on-demand solutions, such as image sharing enabling access to experts for consultation, showing cases to a colleague for clinical and treatment decisions or for quality assurance. These are opportunities for improving patient care but also serve to potentially increase or create additional revenue streams including insourcing of cases for pathology practices or institutes with sub-specialty experts.

This webinar will address the process of selecting and implementing a digital consult service. There will be discussion of building a home-brewed solution as compared to buying a solution from a vendor. The webinar will enable the participants to understand the requirements of implementing a complete consult solution, pointing out common pitfalls and challenges.

Objectives:

  • Understand the value of digital pathology in creating opportunities for consultation
  • Get an overview of current best practices for digital consults, which are based upon the broad experiential input from actual first-adopters
  • Understand the process of selecting a digital consult solution
  • Challenges and keys to successful implementation

Host:

Dr. Anil Parwani, MD, PhD, MBA Professor of Pathology and Biomedical Informatics at The Ohio State University

anilDr. Parwani is Vice Chair and Director of Anatomical Pathology, Director of Pathology Informatics and Director of the Digital Pathology Shared Resource at The James Cancer Hospital.
