OptraSCAN Selected by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), NIH for Digital Pathology System for Brain Injury Studies

OptraSCAN On-Demand Digital Pathology to Provide Robust Multiparametric Whole Slide Imaging System to the NINDS for Brain Injury Studies

optrascanlogoOptraSCAN has been chosen by the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), NIH to provide a high-speed, high-throughput, high-capacity, high-content digital slide scanner that is fully equipped with confocal and widefield fluorescence imaging modalities, that are seamlessly integrated with image acquisition, image processing and quantitative image analysis software.

The specialized OptraSCAN solution includes both brightfield and fluorescent imaging with a 10-laser line confocal imaging modality for acquiring up to 20-color fluorescence channels. The system incorporates a 300-slide autoloader that supports multiple 1×3 and 2×3 inch slides and registration of serial sections for 3D reconstruction, along with 6×8 inch slides for large specimen imaging. The scanner has the ability to scan a 1 cm3 specimen for 20 fluorophores.

The OptraSCAN scanner enables z-stack scanning capability and 3D virtual slide production with its motorized camera and objective changer to facilitate 4x, 10x, 20x and 40x viewing through its image viewer and online image viewing capability. The specialized system seamlessly integrates advanced IHC Multiplexing Image Analysis software with user-friendly algorithm selection (including availability of standard segmentation algorithms and importing of user-specified and software validated segmentation algorithms), and support of standard image formats including BigTIFF, JP-2000, DICOM, CZI and PSB with no restriction on image size. The system supports FCS and ICE export file formats compatible with 3rd party flow and image cytometry.

System functionality enables multichannel fluorescence IHC image datasets and big image data >1 PB. Additional features include signal optimization, multi-level cell segmentation, comprehensive feature extraction and robust quantitative analysis for each imaged channel with export capability, export for high resolution data visualization and validation and support of export function for xyz pixel coordinates, multi-level cell segmentation and feature extraction data.
