On the heels of the annoucement of formation of Omnyx, I came across a piece commenting on the Chicago Tribune story I posted about "Digital Imaging see as pathology lab cure?". What I did not appreciate is that the article on the Tribune makes mention that GE engineers has cut the time to scan a slide from 10 minutes to 1/2 a minute. As we know, scan times, storage requirements and costs to do are a function of Moore’s Law. Other vendors in this space have had similar results.
Sub one-minute scan times have also been claimed by other vendors without any post-acquisition processing additional time required.
30 seconds sounds great and even realistic at this point. Imagine scan times of less….
