Pathology Visions Keynote Presenter Plans to Take Attendees on a Tour of the Digital Pathology Galaxy

BY Dr. Keith J. Kaplan

glassyThe Digital Pathology Association (DPA), a non-profit organization that facilitates education and awareness of digital pathology applications, is featuring Dr. Eric F. Glassy as the keynote presenter for their upcoming annual conference, Pathology Visions. Pathology Visions will be held September 29 – October 1, 2013 in San Antonio, TX at the Grand Hyatt. Dr. Glassy’s keynote presentation for Pathology Visions 2013 is titled “The Hitchhikers Guide to Digital Pathology”.

“The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a cult favorite of the 80s, recounts the destruction of earth, an alien researcher’s eponymous digital guidebook for galactic travel, and the search for the ultimate answer to life, the universe, and Everything,” shared Dr. Glassy. “My talk follows a similar path— the destruction of analog pathology, the search for a killer digital pathology app, and finally the discovery of the real answer to everything (digital).”

Using a Digital Pathology Guidebook, Dr. Glassy, will share his experience in roughing it around the whole slide imaging galaxy and will guide the listeners on a grand tour of our digital world. Throughout Dr. Glassy’s presentation, he’ll cover topics such as education, tumor conferences, QR codes, consultations and multiplex analyses. He’ll then explore the promise of digital pathology and how it can be integrated into current and future workflows.

Dr. Glassy is Board certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology with a specific interest in Hematopathology and Information Technology. He is a well-known lecturer and author who combines his pathology knowledge and software skill to create interactive and engaging presentations. Dr. Glassy also has extensive involvement with the DPA and College of American Pathologists (CAP). He currently acts as Medical Director of Pathology Inc. and in the past has served as Laboratory Director for several Southern California hospitals. Dr. Glassy’s keynote presentation will kick off the two day Pathology Visions conference. The conference will conclude with a presentation given by founder and former President/CEO of Aperio, Dirk Soenksen, titled “Digital Pathology – A Bright Future.”

“Digital pathology has a bright future and will become increasingly more important to pathologists and the patient’s care team,” said Soenksen.

Mr. Soenksen’s presentation will give an overview of the current state of adoption of digital pathology, along with a detailed potential roadmap for how the digital pathology industry will evolve. Attendees will gain valuable insights into current and emerging uses of digital pathology, challenges to full adoption, and become aware of potentially important metrics for assessing the value of digital pathology in their institutions.
