Pathology Visions’ Presenters & Products Draw Diverse Attendance to San Antonio
Distinguished presenters and product information drove attendees from across the globe to San Antonio, TX for the ninth annual Pathology Visions Conference, hosted by the Digital Pathology Association (DPA). The conference was held last month at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. Those that attended the conference represented 30 states, 20 countries and 146 organizations.
This year Pathology Visions was condensed into two days. Day one featured presentations given by experts in whole slide imaging, image analysis and other aspects of the digital pathology field. Day two featured workshops that catered to all levels and interests of digital pathology, ranging from a “Digital Pathology 101” workshop to an “Implementation of Digital Pathology in a Clinical Environment” workshop. Between these two days, physician attendees had the opportunity to earn up to 12.5 continuing medical education (CME) credits from the Indiana State Medical Association (ISMA). Headlining the lineup of distinguished presenters at Pathology Visions 2013 was keynote presenter, Dr. Eric Glassy, titled “The Hitchhiker’s Guide to Digital Pathology”. Dr. Glassy currently serves as Laboratory Director for several Southern California hospitals and has served in key leadership roles for hospital staff and foundation committees. In his keynote presentation, Dr. Glassy did a play off the popular 80s novel The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. He took attendees on a journey where they learned more about the destruction of analog pathology, the search for a killer digital pathology app and the discovery of the real answer to Everything (digital).
One attendee stated, “Dr. Glassy’s keynote address was the most interesting session. His combination of creativity in public speaking as well as his knowledge of the subject matter made for a perfect keynote address.” Dr. Glassy’s ability to demonstrate all the capabilities of digital pathology through mobile devices such as the iPhone and iPad made his presentation popular among attendees.

Prior to the conference, the DPA awarded four pathology residents with Travel Awards. These Travel Awards allowed each resident to attend Pathology Visions with no expense. Winners included:
