Virtual microscopy is a revolutionary new mode of pathology consultation. Despite being introduced in practice only a few years ago it has become a widely used modality of communication between the practicing pathologists and the leading experts in the field. Virtual slides are effective ways of sending slides to consultants for second opinion, confirmation of the initial diagnosis or the resolution of controversies generated by complex pathology slides.
To this end pathology residents and fellows are being trained to use virtual slides and are expected to be able to interpret them and make the correct diagnosis on this format of slide presentation
Pathology residents are currently tested on virtual slides during their specialty examination by the American Board of Pathology (ABP).
This set of 50 slides provides the facsimiles of slides that are currently used on the ABP specialty examination. These slides include a wide range of diagnosis challenges and difficulties and were chosen for their didactic value. They have been chosen from daily practice to indicate that they could improve your diagnostic and visual analytic skills.
The slides included in this collection could be used by pathologists in training to prepare for their Specialty Boards examination, Board Certified pathologists in practice to acquire new competence in interpreting virtual slides, and learn how to prepare such slides for future telepathology consultation with experts in the field. They can also be stored in the departmental electronic files and used for teaching of residents, students and fellows.
