Inspirata Enhances Storage, Retrieval and Security for its Digital Pathology Solution Powered by EMC Technologies
With requirements to rapidly catalog and retrieve millions of pathology images and associated patient data, Inspirata sought the most respected name in information infrastructure for its bundled solution.
Inspirata, Inc., a provider of an end-to-end digital pathology workflow solution and a fully integrated pathologist cockpit, announced today that it will be powering its Digital Pathology Solution-as-a-Service with technologies from EMC Corporation (EMC). EMC will provide the on-premise and cloud-based utilities required for anatomical pathology image storage, intelligence-driven data retrieval and data security for Inspirata’s customers, which include some of the world’s leading cancer centers and teaching hospitals.
With the projected increase in cancer cases, there is a corresponding need for more efficient technologies to automate processes in the practice of pathology. In spite of the growing rate in the incidence of cancer, the tools and processes pathologists use today have remained essentially unchanged for the past 100 years. Inspirata’s goal is to enable cancer institutions to meet the growing demand for cancer diagnostics services by transforming the pathology workflow with modern tools and technologies delivered via a unique “Solution-as-a-Service” business model. This model bundles all of the hardware, software, data storage, services and resources as operating costs, which are then spread over the life of the engagement vs. requiring upfront capital investment by the institution.
“Inspirata digitizes glass pathology slides and then leverages the high-resolution images to provide pathologists with new decision-support aids such as computational image analytics and content-based image retrieval, enabling them to make better informed decisions,” says Inspirata CEO, Satish Sanan. “This process requires petabytes of data storage and real-time image retrieval, so we needed to find a partner who could provide us with a highly reliable, scalable, secure and flexible big data analytics platform. EMC’s data lake offers everything we need to automate the pathology workflow and, ultimately, to support better cancer diagnostics through data analytics.”
“We believe our cloud, big data and storage platforms will enable Inspirata to provide its customers with fast and easy access to the large data stores required for its image-based workflow and digital pathology cockpit,” says CTO of Global Healthcare, EMC Corporation, David Dimond. The solutions designed by Inspirata leverage our broad portfolio of on-premise and advanced cloud solutions. As a result, Inspirata’s digital pathology solution can support higher data and image storage capacities, more easily scale as customers’ needs increase, and can provide a faster, more automated and secure approach to archiving.”
