BY Erica Goodpaster

pathomationBerchem, Belgium – 10 December 2024  Pathomation is proud to announce the release of five major product updates within the last three months. This transformative series of releases showcases Pathomation’s dedication to listening to its users and addressing the ever-evolving needs of pathologists, educators, and researchers in the fast-paced field of digital pathology. Central to this initiative is the enhanced PIMSDX platform, which now offers significant workflow improvements, a refined user interface, and standardized LIS integration for diagnostic pathology labs.

Because we listen to the needs of the digital pathology community

The recent updates are the result of ongoing collaboration with users and a commitment to addressing their challenges. By closely engaging with the community, Pathomation has prioritized improvements that streamline workflows, optimize integration, and enhance usability across its suite of products, ensuring that the software meets the diverse requirements of the modern lab.

PIMSDX Pathomation’s diagnostic platform as the cornerstone of a digital pathology ecosystem

The recent updates reflect a company-wide initiative to elevate Pathomation’s product offerings, but at the forefront is PIMSDX, Pathomation’s diagnostic platform.’ says Rudy Hovelinck, CEO of PathomationMost new digital pathology projects are now coming from diagnostic labs that want to go digital. To address their needs, we completely redesigned the user interface designed for a smoother, more intuitive user experience. Workflow optimizations have been introduced to streamline routine diagnostic tasks, while new standardization in LIS integration ensures seamless compatibility with laboratory information systems, reducing setup times and eliminating common bottlenecks.

Modular product design benefits software development speed and user flexibility

‘However diagnostic pathology labs also want to use digital pathology tools to support their other activities, ranging from training residents, teaching, biobanking and research.’ continues Rudy Hovelinck ‘The diversity of user requirements in the fastpaced world of digital pathology is a big challenge for software manufacturers. We can manage this development effort because of the rational design of our software: PMA.core is our shared imaging technology backbone, all PMA.core improvements translate immediately to our end-user applications, where we then have the flexibility to design specific workflows.’ The modular applications approach gives users the additional benefit to expand their toolset as they progress with the adoption of digital pathology for various purposes in their organization. Pathomation has rolled out significant improvements across its other products. PMA.core, the core technology powering all Pathomation solutions, has been enhanced with ICC profile support, guaranteeing exceptional color accuracy in digital slides. PIMSLS, Pathomation’s solution for life sciences research, now includes real-time conferencing capabilities, image analysis, and third-party AI algorithm integration to support collaborative research efforts. My Pathomation has been upgraded to further improve usability, and the universal LTI Plugin now offers seamless integration with all major Learning Management Systems, adding new features like student-specific annotation galleries to enhance the educational experience.

The future of digital pathology

“Our mission has always been to empower professionals in the field of digital pathology with tools that meet their needs and adapt to their workflows. These five releases showcase our dedication to continuous innovation and our focus on delivering real value to our users.” summarizes Rudy Hovelinck. “Our next releases are already planned, but first we want to give our fantastic developer team a well-deserved end of year break to spend with their friends and loved ones.”
