We are excited to announce the release of PathViewer 3.16.1! This version introduces enhanced mask support, improved channel controls, and expanded dataset-level annotation customization.

Auto-Min/Max Channel Control

An auto-min/max button has been added to the Viewing Options channel controls, allowing all visible channels to be scaled to their histogram range with a single click. This is especially useful for high bit-depth images.

Mask, Heatmap, and Label Image Support

PathViewer now supports RGB images as masks, enabling accurate visualization of heatmaps and other multi-color masks exactly as they appear. Downsized masks (both RGB masks/heatmaps and grayscale label images, such as instance segmentation) are also supported and are automatically scaled to align with the original image as an overlay. Additional improvements include:

  • The first mask ROI is now enabled and visible by default when opening an image.
  • Mask ROI visibility can be toggled directly from the Data tab, eliminating the need to switch to the ROI tab.
  • The Assigned Colors setting on the ROI Details page now persists across sessions, ensuring objects consistently appear in distinct colors.

Dataset-level Predefined Style Control

Predefined styles can now be configured at the dataset level. This enhancement allows different datasets to maintain distinct annotation workflows, providing greater flexibility and control for users. If unfamiliar with the predefined style annotation workflow, see example here.

Bugfixes and maintenance

  • Fixed an issue where the PathViewer CLI misinterpreted colon-separated arguments
  • Fixed a rendering issue where label group colors were not updating correctly
  • Improved the UI by hiding unnecessary controls for label images and shapes
