We want to share with you an exciting, upcoming opportunity for the GIST community.  Novartis Oncology, along with the Life Raft Group and GIST patient advocate Mo Collins, will be hosting the 2013 GIST Connect Online Patient Summit on November 12, 2013 from 8-9:30 PM EST/5-6:30 PM PST. If you, or anyone you know, would be interested in attending the GIST Connect Online Patient Summit, please visit http://login.xyvid.com/register/gistconnectonlinewebcast to register.

This interactive event is designed for those living with gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GIST), as well as their caregivers and loved ones.

The online summit will consist of three sessions devoted to specific topics, including:

  • Exploring how some patients live with GIST
  • The importance of discussing risk of tumor recurrence
  • How online tools can help assess risk of recurrence
  • The role of social media in creating supportive networks for GIST patients and care partners

Mo-CollinsMo Collins is an actress and comedienne well known for her role on the NBC show Parks and Recreation.  Mo was recently diagnosed with GIST and has become a strong patient advocate. She will share her GIST diagnosis story during the first session in a one-on-one interview with Norman Scherzer, executive director of The Life Raft Group.

The latter two sessions will use a panel format, consisting of medical professionals moderated by Norman Scherzer. Panelists will include notable professionals, hand-selected for their expertise in specific areas. Jonathan Trent, MD, PhD, and Rosalie Canosa, LCSW-R will answer questions and share insights into specialized topics.

Viewers will have the opportunity to interact with the panelists by submitting questions during the event, which may be addressed in the Q&A following each of the three sessions.

We hope you’ll attend this innovative, online event to connect with other GIST patients and leaders, and learn more about GIST and the role of online tools and social media platforms.
