Jennifer L. Hunt, MD to Provide Opening Keynote Presentation at Pathology Visions 2014

The Digital Pathology Association (DPA), a non-profit organization that facilitates education and awareness of digital pathology applications, is featuring Dr. Jennifer L. Hunt as the keynote presenter for their upcoming annual conference, Pathology Visions. Pathology Visions will be held October 20 – 21, 2014 in San Francisco, CA at the Hyatt Regency. Dr. Hunt’s keynote presentation for Pathology Visions 2014 is titled “#SelfieSunday #TransformationTuesday #ThrowbackThursday”.
Diagnostic pathology has always been an evolving discipline and one that embraces new technological advancements. Over the decades, some novel approaches have been quickly adopted into clinical use and others have taken years to reach their potential, across the spectrum of both anatomic and clinical pathology. Among the many factors that drive the adoption of promising new technologies, the ability for it to replace old or outdated approaches is one of the most important. And, of course in today’s environment of extreme cost control and focus on efficiency, new technologies are facing even greater hurdles. During this lecture, attendees will take a tour of some new innovations of the past decade that have succeeded and failed to be adopted for pathology practice. Dr. Hunt will explore some of the potential drivers of uptake in the modern laboratory with a particular emphasis on financial pressures and cost analysis. Dr. Jennifer Hunt is the Chair of Pathology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, where she holds the Aubrey J. Hough Endowed Professorship. Dr. Hunt was an undergraduate at Bryn Mawr College, and then pursued her Masters of Education and medical degree at the University of Pennsylvania. She has held prior academic appointments at the University of Pittsburgh, the Cleveland Clinic and Harvard Medical School. She has served on numerous committees with the College of American Pathologists and the United States and Canadian Association for Pathology. She has also been elected into several leadership positions in the Association for Molecular Pathology, including most recently s the President of the organization in 2013. Dr. Hunt is a candidate for the Board of Governors of the College of American Pathologists election in July of 2014. She has received awards for leadership, scientific contributions, and teaching, including the Lansky Award, the Arthur Purdy Stout Award and the CAP Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Hunt has authored over 130 publications in Endocrine, Head & Neck, and Molecular Pathology and Quality Assurance. Her research has focused on the study of tumor associated genetic alterations and mutations in neoplasia, with a strong emphasis on translational applications to improve and expand molecular diagnostic testing for understanding tumor pathogenesis, prognosis and improved diagnostics.
