Registration Opening Soon for 2015 Sarcoma Stomp
Paula Takacs wrote an article on this site nearly two years discussing the value of pathology and giving credit where credit is due. She had a powerful message then and her legacy lives on in her foundation she started in her name. In her post in 2013 Paula wrote “So as a cancer patient of eight years, I thank the pathologists who have led my oncologists in the right direction throughout my own journey. I am grateful for those extra steps that they take to determine the exact nature of the cancer beast, and just wish everyone could give them the credit they deserve.”
I am grateful for having had the opportunity of knowing Paula and helping to support sarcoma research in our community. If you are in the Charlotte area and looking for a 5K run in April please consider joining us for this fun activity to support a great cause. Stay tuned to this site or the official Sarcoma Stomp page for upcoming registration information.
Mark your calendars for Saturday, April 18!! We are thrilled to announce that registration will open next week for the 2015 Sarcoma Stomp!!
The Sarcoma Stomp—a timed 5k run and untimed 3K walk—will be in the beautiful “backyard” of Christ Lutheran Church (4545 Providence Road, Charlotte). The course will wind through the lovely, tree-lined neighborhoods of Mammoth Oaks and Landsdowne. The Stomp is always family-friendly, and will offer fun activities and surprises for our younger participants!
All Sarcoma Stomp proceeds benefit the Paula Takacs Sarcoma Research Fund at the Levine Cancer Institute (LCI), here in North Carolina. Researchers will analyze tissue samples in sarcoma patients across the LCI network to identify unique biomarkers. The goal is to use this data to develop a clinical trial at LCI for sarcoma patients to improve their lives and outcomes.
Due in large part to your participation in earlier Stomps, we have been able to donate nearly $440,000 to sarcoma research in the past four years. Our community is making a noticeable difference, and we appreciate all of your support.
