Growing Like a Weed: DigiPath is Building a Cannabis Conglomerate

BY Dr. Keith J. Kaplan

There has been more recent news including this press release from DigiPath in the past couple of weeks and this article back in March entitled “Growing Like a Weed: DigiPath is Building a Cannabis Conglomerate” from MarketWatch.

In addition to their growth in the cannabis industry, DigiPath Corp., the digital pathology subsidiary, is reporting expansion within Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific Islands.

This I think continues to be the first venture and company combining whole slide imaging with cannabis testing but curious to see where things go from here now that there is a laboratory if somehow these two verticals get combined.

LOS ANGELESApril 13, 2015 /PRNewswire/ — Just days before the opening of its cannabis testing laboratory in Las Vegas, DigiPath, Inc. (OTCQB: DIGP), the independent digital pathology and cannabis testing, education, and media firm, has published on its website a letter to investors. The direct communication from DigiPath, Inc., CEO Todd Denkin describes the progress the company is making in each of its four major business units.

“The big news is that less than five months after receiving a provisional license to build and operate a cannabis testing lab in Clark County, we’re ready to open,” says Denkin. “In that short time we have assembled an exceptional team of scientists, developed industry-leading processes, and invested over $1 million in analytical instrumentation. Cannabis safety and potency testing has arrived in the Silver State.”

Denkin says the last remaining hurdle—which is holding up many cannabis businesses in Nevada—is for state officials to determine and publish the official list of testing requirements. A decision is expected any day.

In the letter Denkin also announces that TNMNews Corp. now reaches well over 100,000 listeners each month. Part of the growth is due to growth in broadcasters; TNMNews segments now air on its newly reformatted cannabis news website, Live365, and a growing number of terrestrial radio stations across the country—including stations in WisconsinNorth CarolinaColorado, and Alaska.

DigiPath Corp, the company’s digital pathology subsidiary, is expanding overseas, with distribution partnerships announced in Asia, the Middle East, and the Pacific Islands. These areas are upgrading their healthcare infrastructure and modernizing rural medical facilities, which is helping fuel nearly 12 percent growth in the sector.

DigiPath U curricula development continues, with the launch of courses designed to educate doctors, nurses, lawmakers, and cannabis industry professionals expected later this year.

Denkin concludes the letter by declaring, “My mantra is: Execute. Execute. Execute. A year ago we saw huge opportunities and reinvented our company to take advantage of them. We have made enormous progress, and believe we are better prepared and further along than the competition.”
